We were staying at the Best Western Plus Hotel and Conference Center for the NY Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck and after a very long day vending, decided to try First Capitol for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised in all respects. The dining room is spacious but cozy, the staff very polite and attentive from our arrival until we departed. Our server, Donna was great and knew the menu well and offered a great recommendation when asked. We came just before closing on a Sunday night and had a great meal. We had the 1/2 lb Angus sirloin burger with fries and salmon with veggies and rice. The salad served ahead of the salmon entree was very fresh and the balsamic dressing was well balanced and tasted like it was made in house. Really good! The dinner rolls and butter were warm and fresh. The cheeseburger was prepared to order (not at all over cooked), and the beef was very tasty and juicy. The ciabata roll it was served on was nicely toasted and also very tasty. The French fries were tasty and fresh and hot. The salmon entree was lightly seasoned with a house made red pepper butter that complimented the fish well without overwhelming it the rice and veggies were also tasty. I'd say this was a great value for the price, and we will eat here again when we come back. Thanks for a great meal!

I'm writing this review for the First Capitol Bistro in the Best Western in Kingston, NY because there were not any when I stayed there recently.   I know unless it's a top hotel that restaurant hotels can be hit or miss, so I was pleasantly surprised with the food and service.  When we first walked in we were standing at the front and the bartender said we could sit anywhere.  It was playoff hockey time and a game was on by the bar.  I was sitting a fair distance away but turned around to watch it and the bartender came over and asked if we wanted it on by the television near us in the dining area.  He turned it on for us which was great. The waitress Rose came by fairly quickly and asked if we wanted a drink.  It was Cinco de Mayo and my wife ordered a margarita.  I had a Dos Equis.  My wife said the drink was strong and one of the best she's had.  For dinner my wife ordered a Cobb salad and a flatbread that had chicken, mozarella, and spinach.  I ordered a steak with french fries and a peppercorn sauce. It also came with string beans. The dinner took a while and my wife commented that it should be fresh as it would have been delivered quickly otherwise.  She was correct.  Her salad was very fresh as well as the ingredients on the flatbread.  I wasn't expecting much from my steak, but it was better than I expected.  That, with the fries and the peppercorn sauce on the side was very good.  So were the string beans.  I even suggested they serve the fries with just the peppercorn sauce as I was dipping mine in it.  So, if you have driven a long way and are tired (as we were) and don't feel like going out to a restaurant I would say to give this place a shot.  I hope this helps.
